
Hoang Quoc Huy, head of the Mau Son Meteorological Station, said temperatures at the peak reached minus 0.1degree Celsius at 8 am, marking one of the lowest readings in the latest cold spell. Light rain overnight meant the ice layer was thin.
According to the Lang Son Hydrometeorological Station, cold air continues to dominate the region, bringing cloudy skies and light rain in some areas. After rainfall, temperatures are expected to fall further, with severe cold conditions and strong northeast winds. Temperatures across the province are forecast at 8-15 degrees Celsius, while Mau Son is expected to see lows of 2-7 degrees Celsius, with humidity ranging from 67 to 85 per cent.

In Son La Province, cold air intensified and expanded on January 22, initially affecting districts such as Moc Chau, Van Ho, Bac Yen, Phu Yen and Yen Chau before spreading across the province. Minimum temperatures are forecast at 10-12 degrees Celsius, dropping to 8-10 degrees Celsius in highland areas, with daytime highs of 14-18 degrees Celsius.
Cao Bang Province also saw cloudy conditions with rain and showers in many areas, accompanied by severe cold, with some locations experiencing extreme cold.
Ahead of the cold spell, meteorological authorities have urged residents in mountainous areas to take measures to protect people, livestock and crops from the harsh weather.
