Chairman of Cam Nghia Ward People's Committee, Huynh Thi Thanh Thuy confirmed on Monday morning that the four secondary students had an accident while swimming on Bai Dai Beach on April 18.
According to a report from local authorities, a group of eight eighth-grade students from Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School went to Bai Dai Beach to swim on Sunday afternoon.
Four of them were then washed away by the high waves. The others called the rescue forces who were able to take two ashore. The two, however, died while being rushed to the hospital.
The bodies of two others were found that evening and on Monday morning, the report said.
It is said that the Bai Dai beach has some dangerous areas which often see whirlpools. Local authorities have placed warning signboards at these areas.
