A patient dies from influenza A/H1pdm while receiving treatment at the Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital on October 17, 2024.

According to a report from the province's Centre for Disease Control, nine people have been infected with influenza A/H1pdm including four deaths.

"The number of infected cases have sharply risen over the past two weeks," the centre said.

A 59-year-old resident in Binh Dinh’s Phu My District was among the patients who had died from the disease.

He began experiencing symptoms including a high fever, cough with yellow phlegm, chest pain, headache, and body aches on October 28.

He was diagnosed with pneumonia of an unspecified cause and despite some days of treatment, his condition deteriorated quickly and he died on November 7.

The centre collected his samples for testing which then came positive for influenza A/H1pdm.

Another patient was a 51-year-old man from Vinh Thanh District who also experienced a high fever, headache, body aches, and severe coughing with wheezing on October 13. He was also given medical care at the Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital but his condition worsened and he died from the disease on October 17.

The A/H1N1 pdm09 flu virus was first identified during the 2009 flu pandemic and it has now become a common virus circulating in the population.

Binh Dinh authorities have disinfected the patients' home and surrounding households, and other relevant locations with Chloramine B to prevent further transmission.
