Flights cancelled due to typhoon Dianmu

National carrier Vietnam Airlines has cancelled 10 flights today, August 19, because of Typhoon Dianmu which has affected some northern localities.

The cancelled flights are those departing from and landing at Cat Bi Airport in Haiphong City and Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa City where are forecast to be affected by the storm, including six flights on the HCM City/Nha Trang/Danang and Haiphong route and four on HCM City-Thanh Hoa route.

To serve the affected passengers, Vietnam Airlines will run two more flights on Danang-Pleiku route and four more on Hanoi-HCM City/Danang route. On August 20, the airlines will also carry out two additional flights on the HCM City-Thanh Hoa route.

On August 18, due to bad weather, the carrier also had to cancel eight flights. The airline has advised passengers to frequently check the weather condition for their trip.

Local budget carrier Vietjet Air said that they have also cancelled many flights due to the storm.

According to the National Centre of Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, by 4pm yesterday, the storm was in China’s Leizhou Peninsula, moving west at 20km per hour and was predicted to gain strength before making landfall in Vietnam.

The storm, the third of this year, is due to hit the northern region from Quang Ninh to Thanh Hoa provinces today.
