Fire threatens Hoang Lien National Park

A fire that started in Ma Quy Ho Hamlet in Sa Pa three days ago, has so far proven very difficult to extinguish.

A fire that started in Ma Quy Ho Hamlet in Sa Pa on February 8, has proven very difficult to extinguish.

Strong winds and dry weather have made controlling the fire a difficult task.

On February 10, there were about 200 hectares of regenerating forest burning in the Seo My Ty area. By February 11, the fire spread into other areas in Ban Ha Commune, Ta Van, Sa Pa, threatening the centre of Hoang Lien National Park which is ASEAN’s relic garden.

Ma Quang Trung, the District Party Committee Secretary of Sa Pa, said that the fire started at 1pm on February 8 at Ma Quy Ho Hamlet, Ban Ho Commune near Seo My Ty Hamlet, Ta Van Commune. Local and provincial fire-fighting forces couldn't extinguish the blazes due to the weather.

Fire fighting forces already reported to the Prime Minister and requested to be provided with advanced fire-fighting equipment to stop the fire more effectively and prevent it from hitting the centre of Hoang Lien National Park.
