A father in Thanh Hoa Province killed himself and his wife and his two children because he was deep in debt, police said.
Colonel Nguyen Chi Phuong, head of Thanh Hoa Police Department said on November 2 a suicide letter and voice recordings by Ngo Le Ha were found at his home.
They said the messages revealed he had incurred heavy debts and was unable to repay them.
"Ha wrote that he intended to take his wife's life first, then their children's and his was the last. He apologised to other family members and asked they be cremated and the family be buried together," Phuong said.
Police suspect Ha drugged his wife and children before hanging himself.
Locals living on Tran Phu Street reported that Ha's house, which doubles as an electronics shop, did not open on October 31. Relatives phoned repeatedly but got no answer. They gained access through an adjacent house on the evening of November 1 and found all four family members dead.
Ha worked in the construction industry and his wife managed the shop.
Police investigations are continuing.
