Huge cracks appear on the road

The Ho Chi Minh Highway section that runs through Chu Se, Gia Lai Province, is invested by the Project 6 Management Board, under the Ministry of Transport. The section is over 10.8km long. Construction was started in May 2018 and was completed in June.

However, the section already suffers from subsidence and has huge cracks. Some of the cracks are more than 50cm wide and one metre deep.

A local living nearby said they had seen small cracks long before but the huge cracks only happened the day before. This area used to be a valley and was levelled up in order to build the road. Weak foundations and rains for many days may have been the reason why the cracks appeared.

Nguyen Hong Linh, chairman of Chu Se District People's Committee, said they had reported to the construction unit and Ministry of Transport to deal with the cracks and block vehicles from using the new road.

Le Van Hanh, deputy director of Gia Lai Department of Transport said, "We have asked the Project 6 Management Board to work with Chu Se authorities and related agencies to regulate the traffic to ensure road safety."
