The European Union (EU) will give 940 million euros (about $1 billion) in aid to Vietnam this year.

It was revealed in the EU's annual report Green Book released here Monday, Xinhua reported.

Sean Doyle, head of the European Commission delegation to Vietnam, said Monday the Green Book 2010 focuses on the importance of gender equality in the sustainable development of Vietnam.

In the book, the EU has introduced a roadmap for gender equality in Vietnam, Doyle told reporters.

Doyle said although European economies are affected by the debt crisis, the union pledges not to decrease its aid to Vietnam in the near future.
