Nguyen Van Thang, 33, from Bac Lang Giang District’s Xuan Huong Commune has had a tumour on his back since birth. This distorted his back, causing difficulties for him to move. He got married to Nguyen Thi Hong who is six years older than him.

In 2011, the couple gave birth to their oldest child Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan who was diagnosed with heart problems at the age of one. However, due to the family’s financial difficulties, the treatment was affected and she died when she was four years old.
His second child Nguyen Anh Tuan, 7, has been diagnosed with the lack of an enzyme called G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase).

Meanwhile, their third child Nguyen Thi Thao Linh, 2, also faces heart problems. Doctors said that she needs intensive treatment, but his family can not afford this and the family have incurred a large debt.
Despite being disabled, Thang is working for a workshop quite far from his home with a daily income of VND100,000. However, he has recently lost his job due to Covid-19. His wife is illiterate and weak so she can only stay home doing some housework.
