During a visit to Thang Long Industrial Zone, on September 20, Nhanh emphasised the Government\'s commitment to developing this sector, and acknowledged its importance to the economy.
Thang Long Data Centre, operated by Global Data Service JSC (GDS), is the first data centre with international quality Tier III – TIA 92 in Vietnam. GDS is a joint company owned by Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and NTT Communications of Japan. GDS provides data centre service to developing businesses in Vietnam, fully utilising Japanese technology from NTT Communications.
At the meeting, the deputy prime minister encouraged local business to share the data centre so as to minimise IT costs.
He also stressed that the Government would give incentives to high-tech enterprises. At the moment GDS is facing difficulties, including an unstable power supply. Nhan said that this was among the larger problems faced by many businesses, and that the country was beginning a strategy to create a more stable power supply which includes nuclear power. “Two large power plants have also recently been built in Hai Duong and Bac Ninh provinces, which should also help the problem,” he said.
A report from the Management Board of Hanoi’s Industrial Zones revealed that the city has a total of 33 industrial and high-tech parks. Thang Long was one of 8 zones with nearly completed infrastructure. The park has attracted 500 enterprises, contributing some USD5 billion to Hanoi\'s economy every year.
