The Defence Ministries of Vietnam and Russia have signed agreements on delegation exchanges, exchanges on national defence policies and strategies, training, and cooperation in military technology.
General Thanh said effective defence cooperation will help strengthen the traditional friendship, and consolidate mutually beneficial relations within the strategic partnership framework to ensure a peaceful and stable environment for national development, and without targeting a third country.
He also noted that bilateral defence cooperation also conforms to multilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM +), in which Russia plays an important role.
General Thanh assured his host that Vietnam wants to develop the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, and national defence cooperation is a key pillar of this partnership.
For his part, Minister Sergei Shoigu said both Russia and Vietnam have treasured the traditional friendship and reliable partnership, and effective cooperation in national defence will help promote trust and mutual understanding, contributing to boosting the two countries’ relations.
Russia will closely cooperate with Vietnam in staff training, military technology and naval affairs, and it will create the best possible conditions for stronger cooperation in these areas, said General Shoigu.
After talks, the two ministers signed a plan of bilateral cooperation in training.
Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh is leading a Vietnam National Defence Ministry delegation to visit Russia from August 7 to 10 at the invitation of Russian Defence Minister General Sergei Shoigu.
