Police in Thang Binh Commune said they coordinated with forest rangers and the city’s protection forest management board to complete procedures to return the animal to its natural habitat.
On February 25, Truong Vo Quang Triet, 18, brought the adult pangolin to the commune police station. The animal weighed 3.5 kilogrammes and measured about 110 centimetres including its tail. It was found to be in good health with no visible injuries.
Initial verification determined that the pangolin is a rare and endangered species listed in Vietnam’s Red Data Book and subject to strict protection regulations.
Triet said he spotted the animal in a garden near his home and, recognising it as protected wildlife, decided with his family to report and hand it over to the authorities.
Local police praised the teenager and his family for their awareness and responsible compliance with wildlife protection laws.
