Danang poor households to get smartphone support

Danang City People’s Committee has proposed financial support for local households to buy smartphones following the Ministry of Information and Communications’ decision to turn off 2G technology on land in the coming time.

Danang City People’s Committee has proposed financial support for local households to buy smartphones following the Ministry of Information and Communications’ decision to turn off 2G technology on land in the coming time.

Under the recommendation sent to the municipal people’s committee for consideration, maximum assistance of VND2 million (USD76.21) will be provided to each poor household which does not have a smartphone.

Danang is expected to be the first locality in the country to phase out 2G from September


Danang is expected to be the first locality in the country to phase out 2G from September this year. So, all mobile phones using the 2G service will need to be switched to smartphones with 4G service.

Currently, around 3,800 households in Danang do not have a smartphone. Telecommunications firms will provide the city with around 2,000 smartphones, and the city will assist 1,800 remaining households.

By the end of last year, Vietnam had 15 million 2G subscribers.
