Vice Chairwoman of the Danang People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Anh, on July 29, issued a directive urging authorities to step up efforts and take more decisive action against street vending and tourist harassment.
Known as Vietnam’s most livable city, Danang boasts numerous tourist attractions. In 2024, the city served nearly 11 million visitors. The city has set a goal to lure 11.9 million tourists this year.
To address the issue, the Danang People’s Committee has directed local authorities to step up inspections of the tourism environment, public order, traffic safety, and pricing transparency at service establishments, eateries, and tourist sites.
Danang authorities have also urged localities to tighten supervision of eateries, places of worship, and tourist sites to prevent begging, disguised forms of solicitation, street vending, and tourist harassment.
In addition, local wards, communes, and special zones have been tasked with managing and educating habitual local beggars to prevent repeat violations.
Anh noted that chairpersons of wards, communes, and special zones will be held accountable for addressing these problems in the areas.
Van Ba Son, Deputy Director of the Danang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, admitted the presence of street vendors and the overcharging of tourists at several local spots.
