The embassy was officiated by Cuban First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina and Second Permanent Secretary of the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs Albert Chua.
According to Medina, the opening of the embassy in Singapore is only the beginning of a fine and promising relationship between the two countries, particularly in economy.
He thanked the Singaporean Government for its support for Cuba in polls at the United Nations to lift the US’s embargo against the country over the past years.
Cuba and Singapore established diplomatic relations on April 18, 1997. Currently, Singapore is helping Cuba operate a deep seaport in the Mariel Special Development Area, which holds a strategic position in the Caribbean nation’s economic development.-
