The Rescue, Conservation and Species Development Centre under Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park said on September 24 that it had received the macaque after it was discovered at a house in Nam Ba Don Commune.
The animal was found by Dinh Hoang Linh, 43, a resident of Quang Tien Village in Nam Ba Don Commune. Recognising that it was a protected wild animal, Linh reported the incident to local police and authorities.
Following the report, officers from Nam Ba Don Commune Police Department, local authorities, the Rao Nan Forest Protection Station and the rescue centre coordinated efforts to inspect and take custody of the animal.
Specialists later identified the animal as a pig-tailed macaque, a species listed under Group IIB of Vietnam's classification of endangered, precious and rare forest wildlife.
The macaque has been transferred to the rescue centre, where it will receive care and health monitoring. After completing the necessary procedures and assessments, the animal is expected to be released back into its natural habitat.
