Under the government's newly-issued decree, from January 2016, taxi companies operating in Hanoi and HCM City are required to have at least 50 cars.
Deputy Director of the Hanoi Transport Department Nguyen Hoang Linh, to date, Hanoi has 80 taxi companies, including 15 with less than 50 cars.
Among these 15 companies, 12 are seeking to increase their fleet of taxis to more than 50, while the rest have failed to make progress.
From now to January 31, the city's Department of Transport will check the 15 taxi companies and revoke licences of those who fail to raise their fleet to at least 50 as stipulated.
