In 2018, Hanh's husband, Ha Van Loc, was working as a construction worker when he suddenly fainted at work. He was admitted to the hospital and was diagnosed with the 4th stage of nasopharyngeal cancer.
"Everything was so sudden. He didn't have any symptoms at all," Hanh said.
Hanh had to sell their cows for VND40m (USD1,700) and put the house up as collateral for VND80m. After two years, Loc's health became stable but Hanh was diagnosed with lung cancer. They borrowed everyone for VND50m but it was not enough to pay for Hanh's radiotherapy treatment.
"I don't know what to do anymore. We are both too weak to work. I just try to live one day at a time," she said. "My husband needs to go to the hospital for regular check-ups and medicines. But he can only take painkillers."
Loc said their neighbours often give them vegetables, rice and meat sometimes to help. Loc's only son was working in Hanoi.
"He wanted to go home but I stopped him. The outbreak in Vietnam is still serious," he said.
Trinh Huu Hung, head of Bui Ha 2 Village, said, "Both Hanh and Loc are hard-working people. We are very sympathetic about Hanh and Loc's situation and have called for help for their family."
Nguyen Van Dat, chairman of Yen Phu Commune People's Committee has asked the Women Union to list Hanh's family as one of their beneficiaries and called for help from the community to help them overcome difficult times.
