While on the way back from a visit to India at noon on December 30, the Vietnam Coast Guard vessel 8005 received a call from the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 3 Command asking to rescue a fishing boat that sank some 60 nautical miles southeast from Con Dao Island.

Arriving at the site at 5.30 pm, the Coast Guard vessel co-operated with a Vietnamese fishing boat BTr 93992 TS to carry out the rescue work.
The sea saw strong wind and high waves at that time but the rescue work was successfully completed at 7 pm with all five crew members saved. They were taken to the Vietnamese coast guard vessel, given first aid, health check-ups, warm clothes and food before being transported to shore.

According to the captain of the Chinese fishing boat, Lai Kin Wah, their boat with five crew members onboard suddenly broke at about 6 am on December 30. It sank quickly and all the crew members took their life jackets and drifted in the area.
The Vietnamese fishing boat BTr 93992 TS spotted them at 8 am the same day and the captain Vo Huu Tinh contacted the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 3 Command asking for support.
