China-Vietnam train suspended

Tran Thien Canh, deputy director of Vietnam Railways Corporation, said, "As the coronavirus continues to spread, we've implemented preventive measures and will suspend the Hanoi-Nanning trains starting from February 4."

Airlines and passenger buses in Vietnam have also suspended travels to and from China. According to Canh, they have submitted the proposal to the Vietnam Railway Authority and the Ministry of Transport. They also sent a notification to stations.

The number of passengers on the Hanoi-Nanning services over recent days also decreased sharply after the outbreak was declared.

"All passengers from China must be quarantined for 14 days. Because of the long quarantine, many people have limited travelling for fear of affecting their work," Canh said.

On the morning of February 4, only two passengers, British and Vietnamese nationals, travelled from China to Vietnam. After knowing about the quarantine, the British national returned to China.

Hanoi-Nanning trains often start at 9 pm at Gia Lam Station and arrive in Nanning at 10.07 am. The Nanning-Hanoi trains start at 6.05 pm and arrive at the destination at 5.03 am. The trains will pass Bac Giang and Dong Dang stations in Vietnam and Pingxiang, Chongzuo and Nanning stations in China.
