Thanh Hoa City and Quang Nam Province in the central region have called for people not to return home for Tet if unnecessary due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
According to a letter from Thanh Hoa City’s authorities, the locality has faced a sharp rise in Covid-19 infections. Between October 14 and December 30, the city recorded 619 Covid-19 cases.
The local authorities stated their first priority in this context was ensuring people’s safety. Local residents should also restrict gatherings at Tet.
Quang Nam Province has asked people who return home on Tet to report to local authorities for quarantine. People in Covid-19-hit areas are recommended not to return home for Tet if not necessary.
Earlier, Hoi An City in Quang Nam decided to cancel cultural and arts activities to welcome the New Year 2022.
Vietnamese will have a nine-day break for the Lunar New Year, the country's biggest holiday, beginning from January 29.
