People have flocked to the Red River and lakes in Hanoi to release carp fish that are traditionally said to convey the Kitchen Gods to heaven on February 8.

Dozens of motorbikes parked along Long Bien Bridge to release the carps into the Red River in the morning of the Kitchen Gods' Day, wishing for a good year with health and prosperity.

Volunteers also came to the bridge to prevent people from polluting the environment with their plastic bags. Many people asked the volunteers to help release their carp so that the fish could survive entering the water.

Volunteer Nguyen Tien Duyet said, "Our group has 50 members that are mostly students and workers. We have taken turns standing along the bridge to help the people since yesterday."

Hanoi’s West Lake is another popular location for fish release. "I've come to this lake to release fish on Kitchen Gods' Day every year. But this year, I noticed that people are more aware of the environment," said Nguyen Thu Ha in Tay Ho District.
