The body of the trapped man was brought out of the cave

On May 31, Giang Seo Lu, 57, in Man Than Commune, Si Ma Cai District came to a local cave to take water along with his cousin. When it suddenly rained, rocks and soil blocked the cave and trapped Lu inside. Around 120 people were sent out to save Lu.

The cave is 40 metres deep so the rescuers had troubles reaching Lu.

It continued to rain on June 4 and 7, causing the water level inside the cave to rise, triggering landslides on the outside.

On June 9, Vien Dinh Hiep, head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Si Ma Cai District said they had found and brought Lu's body out at around 10 am. The rescuers faced some difficulties and took two hours to bring Lu out of the cave.

"The rescuers found Lu at around 8 am, 40 metres from the entrance of the cave. He was already dead long before," Hiep said.

The rescue team had to dig and excavate the soil every 10 minutes and wait an hour to pump water out.
