Authorities in Danang City on Wednesday evening issued an urgent dispatch requesting border military forces to inform local boats which are at sea to monitor movements of the depression so that they could seek shelter.
Danang also banned all boats from going out to sea until further notice.
Thua Thien-Hue Province on Wednesday evening also sent an urgent document to agencies asking for proper preparations for the tropical depression.
Boats have been banned from going out to sea since the evening of October 6. Those at sea must be in safe havens by 10am on October 7.
Localities must be ready to evacuate people from landslide-prone areas, especially those living in Phong Dien District and around some hydropower plants.
According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting, at around 1 am on October 7, the tropical depression was centred near the Spratly Islands’ Southwest Cay with wind power of 40-50 kilometres per hour.
The depression is forecasted to strengthen into a storm with a wind power of between 60-75 kilometres per hour and rainfall of up to 400mm in the Central Region
