A driver has been fined VND90m after transporting a barge that exceeded allowed cargo limits and caused congestion on Bao Loc Pass in Lam Dong Province.
Road blocked by the barge
The police in Lam Dong announced the case on May 5. They were informed by Bao Loc Pass Management Board about a driver who tried to transport a barge by road and caused congestion. The barge was 4.5 metres wide and 28.5 metres long.
The driver was going at a very slow speed. For over 3 hours, the driver and the barge took both lanes. After receiving the information, the police had quickly arrived to regulate the traffic but due to the huge size of the barge, the situation couldn't improve until the driver reached Ba Co Temple.
The driver fined VND18m
The vehicle was seized and the driver was fined VND18m (USD766) and Tai Phuc Company, the vehicle's owner, was fined VND74m for transporting during banned hours and causing congestion. It was also found out that both the size and weight of the barge, as well as the route, were different from the registered data on the permit for circulation.
The registered data show that the goods should have been transported from Cat Lai Lotus Port to Hanoi or Ca Mau. But according to the driver, he was going from Lam Dong to Binh Thuan Province.
