The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) has asked Bamboo Airways to report on its plan to increase the size of its fleet to 40 this year.

Bamboo Airways recently proposed to the Ministry of Transport to re-grant an aviation business licence as it wants to change the legal representative, add more branches and raise its registered capital to VND1.3 trillion from the current VND700 billion. It also plans to increase its fleet to 40 for both local and international air routes from a current 10.

Bamboo Airways wants to increase the size of its fleet to 40 this year.

According to the CAAV, the airline is eligible for being re-licensed regarding the legal representative change, branch addition and capital rise. However, the head of CAAV Dinh Viet Thang said an increase in the size of its fleet should be carefully considered based on the capacity of the country’s airport infrastructure and Bamboo Airways capability.

The CAAV has urged Bamboo Airways to clearly explain how it can safely ensure the operation of 40 aeroplanes. The carrier will have also submitted the agency its plan in staff recruitment and training if it operates 40 aeroplanes.

The CAAV will report on the case of Bamboo Airways to the Ministry of Transport for the consideration.
