Tran Van Tai, director of Kien Giang Port Authority, said that strong winds out on the sea made transportation impossible on July 20. Ferry services from Phu Quoc to Rach Gia and Ha Tien to Phu Quoc have been halted.

On July 19, when the rain stopped and the sun was out, thousands of tourists immediately flocked to buy ferry and boat tickets to return home. But when they returned on next day, they were informed that the services had been halted again. Plane tickets for the Phu Quoc-Can Tho flights for July 20 and 21 have been sold out.

Vo Thi Lua from Vinh Long City said, "This summer holiday, our whole family with more than ten members went to Phu Quoc. But it has been raining since July 15 and we couldn't go anywhere. Now we can't go home. The accommodation is so expensive we’ve had to ask relatives to transfer money into our account."

Hoang Minh Tuan from Hau Giang Province said he and his wife had constantly gone to the ticket agencies. "The ferry and boat services have been halted and plane tickets are sold out. We don't know when we will be able to get out of here."

Le Hoang Hai, a local on Phu Quoc Island, said this was one of the rare cases when ferry and boat services were halted because of bad weather.

Son Tinh Storm has caused widespread in many northern and central provinces. It landed in Vietnam on July 18 and weakened into a tropical depression.
