Vietnam wins four gold medals at international maths competition

Vietnamese students won four gold medals and a string of individual and team awards at the 26th Mongolia International Mathematics Competition (MIMC 2026), held in Ulaanbaatar from July 22 to 27.

The competition brought together teams from 32 countries and territories. Vietnam was represented by 24 students from schools in Hanoi.

In the individual contest, the Vietnamese team won four gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals, along with two merit certificates. Three of the gold medals were awarded in the Key Stage II category and one in Key Stage III.

The four gold medallists were Nguyen Xuan Duc Minh of Archimedes Academy, Du Hoang Minh and Truong Manh Quan of Newton Secondary and High School, and Ta Minh Quang of Ngoi Sao Hoang Mai Secondary and High School.

Vietnam also performed strongly in the team events. It claimed two Group Awards championships and one runner-up finish, based on competitors' combined individual scores.

In the Team Awards, judged on collaborative problem-solving, the Vietnamese team won three silver and two bronze medals.

During the visit, the students were welcomed by Vietnamese Ambassador to Mongolia Nguyen Tuan Thanh at the Vietnamese Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, where he congratulated them on their achievements.

The competition also featured cultural exchange and team-building activities for participating students.
