The An Nhut Market Fair, which opened around the 2024 Tet Lunar New Year Festival in An Nhut Commune, Long Dien District, operates every afternoon until late evening. The market, set up along a riverside road amidst rice fields and featuring stalls selling local specialties, has attracted a large number of visitors, particularly during weekends.
The Long Dien District People's Committee, in a document issued on Wednesday, announced the suspension of the market from March 1 due to concerns over food hygiene and traffic safety.
"While the market has turned into an attractive tourist spot, we have identified that the authorities in An Nhut Commune have not ensured safety," the committee stated. "Dozens of food stalls operate without food hygiene certificates, and the lack of parking lots leads to traffic congestion as thousands of visitors park their cars along National Road 55 and in surrounding areas. Additionally, pollution is threatening the environment around the market."
The committee has instructed the An Nhut authorities to make thorough preparations and devise a detailed plan for the market fair should they wish to resume its operations.
