The Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Robyn Mudie, has announced the opening of applications for Australian Alumni Grants Funds.
The announcement was made on December 4 during a welcome home ceremony for recently returned alumni.
The Australian Alumni Grants Fund is funded by the Australian Government. It will provide AUD350,000 in funding for alumni-led grants that contribute to Vietnam’s ongoing development across a wide range of sectors. Ambassador Mudie encouraged alumni to develop projects that contribute to organisation and community change and strengthening linkages between Australia and Vietnam.
“Now that you have completed your studies, it is important that you have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills that you acquired in Australia to realise your ambitions in Vietnam. One way that you can do this, is through the Australian Alumni Grant Fund. This Fund is an opportunity to help you consolidate your professional knowledge and skills, contribute to organisational change, and strengthen linkages between Australian and Vietnam,” said Ambassador Mudie.
Former Australian Alumni Grants Fund recipient, Duong Minh Cuong, said “The Australian Alumni Grants Fund has enabled me to apply the cutting-edge knowledge and skills that I gained from Australian universities to implement projects to improve human health and health education in Vietnam. I received grant funding to help identify predictors of malaria treatment failures, a prevalent disease among ethnic minorities in Vietnam, and to assist in preparing for Vietnam’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout.”
Since 2017, more than VND 27.4 billion has been awarded to over 140 alumni projects that support Vietnam’s social and economic development.
There are over 70,000 alumni of Australian academic institutions living in Vietnam.
