The 10th Asia-Europe (ASEM) Finance Ministers' Meeting opened in Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok to discuss measures to boost economic and financial cooperation between the two regions. Themed "Strengthening Dynamic Partnership, Sharing Dynamic Growth", the one-day meeting gathered finance ministers and senior officials from 46 Asian and European member countries as well as heads of international organisations.
Speaking at the event, Thai Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong said that Asia and Europea have become two major economic powerhouses in the world in this hard turbulent time.
Therefore, the meeting will put forth solutions and create an atmosphere that is beneficial to stability and development, he said.
Regarding cooperation between the two regions, Kittiratt said that in 2011, Asia’s exports to Europe almost reached 1 trillion USD while the figure for Europe was over 600 billion USD.
The ASEM, officially established in 1996 in Bangkok, is an interregional forum aimed at strengthening relations between Asia and Europe at all levels.
