According to Nha Be Commune Police Department, the incident occurred at around 1 am on August 21 while officers were conducting a routine patrol in the area.
The officers spotted the man jumping into the river and immediately launched a rescue operation. Using specialised equipment and with assistance from local residents, they were able to reach him and bring him safely back to shore.

The man later recovered emotionally and wrote a letter expressing his gratitude to the police officers involved in the rescue.
In the letter, he said he had entered Vietnam on August 17 as a tourist and had planned to return to South Korea on August 25. He explained that prolonged business losses and financial difficulties in South Korea had caused severe distress, leading to his actions.
Police said that after receiving support and encouragement, the man regained his emotional stability, abandoned his intention to harm himself and contacted relatives, who arranged for him to return to a safe place of residence.
