Đinh Việt Thắng, director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, said 2018 could be the first year passenger arrivals and departures to airports hit the 100-million threshold.
Statistics showed in the first nine months of this year, the number of arrivals and departures at airports reached nearly 80 million, up 12.1 per cent over the same period last year.
The volume of goods shipped through airports reached 1.1 million, up by 5.6 per cent.
Airports in Vietnam received more than 336,400 departure/arrival flights in January – September, up 10.2 per cent year on year.
In 2017, airports handled more than 94 million passenger arrivals/departures, up 16 per cent over 2016.
Currently, 22 airports operate commercial flights in Vietnam, including nine international airports.
