Additional 424,729 Covid-19 infections announced on Saturday

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Saturday reported an additional 424,729 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 7.79 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (21,071), Nghe An (11,099), Phu Tho (6,681), Hai Duong (4,938), and Lang Son (4,713). Hanoi today added 190,000 more infections and the two northern province of Nam Dinh and Bac Ninh added 48,861 and 35,250 cases respectively to the national tally.

As of Saturday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 7,791,841. The country now stands 14th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (1,151,105), HCM City (581,285), Binh Duong (358,382), Nghe An (336,515), and Hai Duong (310,501).

On March 19, an additional 129,434. more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 3,991,393.

On Saturday evening, a further 77 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 41,817. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Quang Nam (14), Binh Thuan (4), Cao Bang (4), Dak Lak (4), Bac Lieu (3), Ha Giang (3), Khanh Hoa (3), Kien Giang (3), Ninh Binh (3), Quang Ninh (3), and HCM (3).

Vietnam on March 18 administered 160,525 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 201.56 million.
