An additional 2,764 more Covid-19 infections have been confirmed in the past 12 hours in Vietnam, raising the total number of patients in the country to 109,111, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday morning.
According to the ministry's report, 2,762 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 1,849 in Ho Chi Minh City, 149 in Dong Thap, 144 in Tay Ninh, 119 in Dong Nai, 87 in Binh Duong, 73 in Vinh Long, 63 in Tien Giang, 60 in Ben Tre, 52 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 43 in An Giang, 37 in Phu Yen, 26 in Khanh Hoa, 17 in Can Tho, 11 in Dak Lak, 11 in Kien Giang, seven in Hau Giang, four in Hanoi, four in Binh Dinh, three in Tra Vinh, two in Hue and one in Ca Mau. Among these new infections, 538 cases were found in the communities.
Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Monday, the city also recorded 5,997 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.
There were two imported patients confirmed who are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from abroad.
As of Tuesday morning, 105,338 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 68,271 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 109,111 including 106,908 locally-transmitted cases.
As of 6 pm on July 26, a total of 21,344 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.
On Monday, a further 154 deaths were announced related to Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 524. Of the new fatalities, 129 deaths were in HCM City, nine in Dong Thap, seven in Long An, two in Can Tho, two in Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan, Bac Ninh, Tra Vinh, Kien Giang, Dong Nai reported one death each.
The country has conducted over 4.70 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 423,071 people having received two doses.
