The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Friday reported an additional 197,476 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 7.36 million.
According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (23,578), Nghe An (9,968), Phu Tho (8,042), Bac Ninh (6,488), and Lang Son (5,011). The northern province of Bac Giang today added 34,302 more infections to the national tally.
As of Friday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 7,367,112. The country now stands 14th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include Hanoi (940,034), HCM City (579,844), Binh Duong (356,643), Nghe An (325,416), and Bac Ninh (253,879).
On March 18, an additional 175,971 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 3,861,959.
On Friday evening, a further 57 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 41,740. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Quang Ninh (6), Hanoi (5), Ben Tre (4), Dong Nai (3), Kien Giang (3), Nghe An (3), and Phu Tho (3).
Vietnam on March 17 administered 326,300 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 201.40 million.
