According to the ministry's report, 16,980 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (1,866), Ca Mau (1,008), Tay Ninh (935), Hai Phong (838), and Khanh Hoa (788). There were 20 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed an increase of 3,107 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 11,404 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 1,709,042 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (502,687), Binh Duong (290,564), Dong Nai (97,540), Tay Ninh (74,333), and Hanoi (43,924).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,714,742. The country now stands 31st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 30, an additional 34,102 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,336,644.
On Thursday evening, a further 240 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 32,168. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (37), Binh Duong (20), An Giang (16), Can Tho (16), Dong Thap (15), Vinh Long (15), Tien Giang (14), Kien Giang (13), Hanoi (13), Soc Trang (12), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (11), Long An (10), Tay Ninh (9), Ben Tre (8 ), Binh Thuan (6), Ca Mau (6), Tra Vinh (5), Phu Yen (5), Hue (2), Hau Giang (2), Hai Phong (1), Lang Son (1), Lam Dong (1), Dak Lak (1), and Bac Lieu (1).
Vietnam on December 29 administered 1.07 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 149.31 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 67.75 million people having received two doses.
