Vietnam confirmed an additional 15,236 Covid-19 infections in 59 localities nation-wide on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 15,215 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 59 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Ben Tre (1,246), Ca Mau (1,071), Ho Chi Minh City (1,040), Tay Ninh (940), and Binh Phuoc (817). There were 21 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed a decrease of 52 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 9,836 infections found in the community.
As of Friday evening, 1,503,003 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (492,650), Binh Duong (288,763), Dong Nai (94,192), Tay Ninh (62,132), and Long An (39,537).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,508,473. The country now stands 32nd among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 17, an additional 31,057 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,095,518.
On Friday evening, a further 246 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 29,103. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (60), Binh Duong (22), Dong Nai (21), An Giang (18), Can Tho (15), Ben Tre (12), Tien Giang (12), Tay Ninh (11), Dong Thap (11), Kien Giang (11), Vinh Long (9), Soc Trang (8 ), Long An (8 ), Binh Thuan (6), Ca Mau (6), Hanoi (4), Bac Lieu (4), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (3), Nghe An (1), Dak Lak (1), Tra Vinh (1), Binh Phuoc (1), and Hau Giang (1).
Vietnam on December 16 administered 1.11 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 136.86 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 60.17 million people having received two doses.
