According to the ministry's report, 12,093 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in some localities such as HCM City (5,294 cases), Binh Duong (4,129), Dong Nai (618), Long An (460), Tien Giang (319), Danang (162), Khanh Hoa (150), Tay Ninh (119), Binh Thuan (106), Hanoi (96), Nghe An (95), Dong Thap (93), and Can Tho (90).
Today's patient tally showed an increase of 1,296 infections compared to yesterday's figure. Among these new infections, 7,321 cases were found in the community. There were three imported patients reported.
As of Wednesday evening, 377,245 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (190,166), Binh Duong (81,182), Dong Nai (19,728), and Long An (19,046). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 381,363. The country now stands 66th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On August 25, an additional 7,646 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 169,921.
Also on Wednesday evening, a further 335 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 9,349. The deaths were reported in HCM City (266), Binh Duong (31), Long An (16), Dong Nai (13), Danang (3), Hanoi (1), Ben Tre (1), Binh Phuoc (1), Khanh Hoa (1), Thua Thien Hue (1), and Tien Giang (1).
The country has so far conducted over 18.09 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 2.03 million people having received two doses.
