Another three million doses of the US’s Moderna Covid-19 vaccine will be sent to Vietnam on July 25 through the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.
The information was given by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang at an online press conference on Thursday.
The Moderna vaccine, or Skipevax, comes in doses of 0.5ml of mRNA molecules protected by lipid nanoparticles SM-102. It is supplied in a carton of 10 multiple-dose vials, with each vial containing 10 doses. It can help to reduce 90% of Covid-19 infection risks. This kind of vaccine is also effective for the Delta variant.
The Ministry of Health has granted conditional approval for Moderna vaccine emergency use in Vietnam. Zuellig Pharma Vietnam Co. Ltd. is in charge of importing and distributing the vaccine in Vietnam.
On July 10, the US delivered two million doses of Moderna vaccine through the Covax programme for Vietnam. The vaccine was distributed to 53 cities and provinces and 20 hospitals.
To date, Vietnam has received over 10.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, including 7.1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.
The country has conducted over 4.36 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 324,955 people having received two doses.
