Ho Van Vy from Ta Rung Village in Huong Hoa District discovered the bomb while digging his garden to make a pond. Right after that, he informed local authorities.

The bomb weighs 227 kilos
The MK-82 bomb found at a depth of two metres is 1.54 metres long and has a diameter of 274mm.
On January 7, the Peace Trees Vietnam’s mobile bomb and mine clearance successfully moved the 227 kg MK-82 bomb to a safe area to wait for detonation.
In November last year, two big bombs weighing around 567 kilos were also detected in Huong Hoa District.
Quang Tri Province was among the major battlegrounds during the war in the run-up to the Tet Offensive in 1968 and the Easter Offensive in 1972.
Around 391,000 hectares of land, making up 83.3 percent of the province’s total area, are still infested by mines and other explosives from the war.
