At around 4-6 pm, the tide often recedes quickly and strongly, forming rip currents that pull swimmers away from the shore. However, many do not realise the risk until it is too late, bringing about drowning incidents.

“We kept issuing warnings, but the beach was overcrowded and many people were quite careless,” according to Pham Hoang An, head of the My Khe Beach Management Board.

Meanwhile, five other people were also swept away while swimming at beaches in Mo Duc District’s Thang Loi and Duc Chanh communes. Two of them have been rescued, and three others have remained missing. Local authorities are still searching.
