1,196 new Covid-19 cases added to national tally, HCM City hardest-hit

Vietnam confirmed an additional 1,196 locally-infected Covid-19 cases at midday on Wednesday with HCM City still the hardest-hit locality.

Vietnam confirmed an additional 1,196 locally-infected Covid-19 cases at midday on Wednesday with HCM City still the hardest-hit locality.

According to the Ministry of Health, of the figure, HCM City had 971, followed by Tien Giang (115), Dong Thap (91), Phu Yen (8), Ben Tre (3), Bac Giang (2), Hue (1), Vinh Phuc (1), Lao Cai (1), Lam Dong (1), Nghe An (1) and Hanoi (1).

Among the infections, 1,095 were found in quarantined or locked down areas, meanwhile, the remainder are under epidemic investigations, including 83 in HCM City.

As of Wednesday midday, Vietnam had logged 34,656 local infections and 1,949 from abroad. Since April 27, Vietnam reported 33,086 locally-infected Covid-19 patients.

HCM City has continued enduring a sharp rise in new local infections with over 1,000 cases being recorded daily.

The Ministry of Health has approved HCM City’s proposal to isolate asymptomatic F0 cases at home.

If a patient has a negative RT-PCR test result on day 10, or a positive test result but with low viral load and inability to infect others, he will be transferred to home for self-isolation, providing all safety and infection prevention conditions are met.

The patient will continue to have RT-PCR tests at home on subsequent days 14 and 21.

The pilot scheme also applies to healthcare workers who are infected with the virus without clear symptoms.
