A bomb weighing over 100 kilos has been discovered by the Red River in the northern province of Phu Tho.

The Viet Tri City Military Command announced on Monday morning that they had just removed a bomb found at the foot of the Van Lang Bridge, which spans the Red River, to a safe area, awaiting denotation.

‘The bomb was found by local people some two metres from the water,' the Military Command said. ‘It was identified as a United States MK82 series weighing over 100 kilos and measuring at 0.35 metres in diameter and 1.60 metres in length. This kind of bomb was used by US troops during their attack of the Viet Tri Industrial Zone during 1971–1972’.

Several bombs left behind by US troops during the American War had also been found earlier along the Red River section in Hanoi capital, with the highest number discovered near Long Bien Bridge, a historic icon of the capital city.
