Nguyen Cong Hoa, director of the Management Board of Cat Ba archipelago’s Bays, said that the fish was detected near Long Chau Beach on Friday afternoon.
The whale weighs around 10 tonnes
On Saturday morning, authorities in Cat Ba Island District brought the whale body ashore for the burial which was carried out in Phu Long Commune.
The fish weighs around 10 tonnes and is 15-metre long.
Earlier, a whale weighing around 200 kilos was also found dead at Long Chau Beach.
Whale worshiping is common among Vietnamese fishermen who believe that the whale's spirits protect them at sea. When a whale is found dead, local residents will bring it to the cemetery for burial.
