The opening of the museum is part of activities to celebrate the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army.
Visitors to the new Military History Museum in Hanoi on its opening day on November 1.
The museum covers 74.30 hectares, including a five-floor building in Nam Tu Liem District.
Costing VND2.50 trillion and utilising modern technologies, the museum offers new experiences for visitors who can better interact with the exhibits.
Many old wartime aircraft from the old city centre museum have been relocated to the new site.
Among them was the MIG-21 aircraft 4324, recognised as a historical artefact of national importance. In the war against the US, the jet fighter made 69 flights, faced the enemy 22 times and shot down 14 US aircraft.
The exhibits are organised based on six themes: the early days of the country's founding and defence; defending the country's independence between 939 and 1858; fighting against the French colonists between 1858 and 1945; the US War from 1954 to 1975; and Rebuilding the country from 1976 to the present.
Thousands of local people including war veterans and school students visited the museum on its opening day.
The museum will be open for free for two months, until the end of December.
