Dantri Newspaper started construction on ten new houses for low-income families in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang's Chiem Hoa District on May 29.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony held at the house of Quan Van Bien, Dantri's Editor-in-Chief, Pham Tuan Anh, said that the event was part of the newspaper's programme to support the construction of 100 new houses for disadvantaged families nationwide in 2024 and 2025.

"We've launched this programme following the call by the government and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to eliminate dilapidated houses nationwide by 2025," Anh said. "We've set a target to help build 50 new houses for low-income families this year."

He presented VND50 million (USD2,000) to each of the families who benefited from the programme in Tuyen Quang.

Anh expressed his hope that the programme would contribute to the development of difficult areas. He also thanked the kind donors who supported the programme and local authorities for helping in the construction process.

Chiem Hoa District People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Tien Dung, speaking at the ceremony, said that thanks to the government, organisations, and many kind donors, the number of people facing poverty in the area had dramatically dropped.

"Thank you very much for your support," Dung said. "We'll closely co-operate with the donors in the construction of the new houses for the families here."

Quan Van Bien said he was delighted to receive valuable support from Dantri and donors to build his new house.

"As the sole provider for my family, I earn around VND5 million (USD200) a month from my farm work," Bien shared. "Our house, built in 2006, has badly deteriorated. We've tried to repair it many times, but some parts are beyond repair. We've longed for a new house, but the financial burden was too heavy. It was only through the generous support of Dantri's readers that we could finally see our dream come true. We are deeply grateful for your help."
