The 15th edition of the annual Xuan Hong (Red Spring) blood donation festival opened on February 12 at the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) in Hanoi.
Individuals who have made great contributions to the annual festival over the past 14 years are honoured at the event.
The occasion attracts a large number of young people who come to give blood.
The festival represents one of the year’s largest annual blood donation events. It was jointly launched by the Hanoi Youth Association for Blood Donation and the NIHBT back in 2008 before being conducted nationwide since in 2010.
The primary purpose of the event is to help address the shortage of blood needed for treatment during the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet. Over the past 14 years, roughly 92,000 units of blood have been successfully collected.
This year’s event is anticipated to collect 7,000 units of blood from various donors in five locations across the capital.
