Landslides ravage Binh Dinh-Gia Lai pass

Following prolonged heavy rains, landslides have occurred on An Khe Pass in the southern central province of Binh Dinh, causing significant traffic disruptions.

The 8-kilometre-long An Khe Pass is the most dangerous section of National Highway 19 which connects Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces, frequently witnessing accidents, especially at night.

Following an investment of VND600 billion (USD23.66 million), the road is being widened from 7 to 9 metres and is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.

After days of torrential rain, the section of An Khe Pass running through Tay Son District in Binh Dinh experienced severe landslides.

Approximately 2,000 cubic metres of rock collapsed, clogging drainage systems and flooding a 50-metre-long stretch of road. This made the section impassable, leading to kilometres-long traffic congestion on National Highway 19.

The Ministry of Transport's Project Management Unit 2 have deployed 40 staff, numerous vehicles, and equipment to clear the landslide-affected area.
