Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved the HCM City Master Plan for 2021-2030, with a vision extending to 2050.
Under the plan, six railway lines will be constructed to link HCM City with the neighbouring provinces of Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, and Can Tho City.
The list includes a high-speed North-South railway section with 14 kilometres passing through HCM City, the HCM City-Can Tho line connecting the Mekong Delta provinces, the HCM City-Loc Ninh line, the HCM City-Tay Ninh line, the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh line, and a dedicated line connecting to Hiep Phuoc Port.
The HCM City-Can Tho route would be 175 kilometres long, with 33.2 kilometres running through HCM City. It would begin at An Binh Station in Di An City, Binh Duong, and end at Cai Rang Station in Can Tho City.
The 128-kilometre HCM City-Loc Ninh route would run from An Binh Station in Binh Duong to the Hoa Lu Border Gate in Binh Phuoc.
The 139-kilometre HCM City-Tay Ninh route would link Tan Chanh Hiep Station in District 12 to Trang Bang and Xa Mat stations in Tay Ninh.
The Thu Thiem-Long Thanh route would run 37.35 kilometres, starting from Thu Thiem Station in Thu Duc City and ending at Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai.
The 38-kilometre route connecting Hiep Phuoc Port in Nha Be District is designed to alleviate traffic congestion in the port area.
